Type 2 diabetes is a condition where the body has trouble using insulin properly. Insulin is a hormone that helps sugar from food enter our cells to give us energy, and when this process doesn't work well, it leads to high sugar levels in the blood.

Causes

  • Obesity is major risk factor with majority of individuals diagnosed being overweight/obese can lead to insulin resistance

  • Physical inactivity since exercise helps control weight and improve insulin sensitivity

  • Unhealthy diet, high in processed foods, sugars, and unhealthy fat contribute to weight gain and insulin resistance
